In this episode, Brian interviews Doug Foltz of STADIA Church Planting, about his experience coaching dozens and dozens of church planters. Listen as Doug shares what he has learned from coaching over 100 church planters.

Here are some of Doug’s best practices:

  1. Actually coach them.
  2. Coach the heart of the planter.
  3. Challenge them.
  4. Get early wins.

Some common problems coaching church planters:

  1. They want results right now.
  2. They will experience the death of a dream when results don’t match expectations.
  3. The “It’s a season” excuse.
  4. Each session, they need a miracle.

  1. Hello Brian and Doug! What a fantastic interview and subject to discuss around. So many good points shared here. As a coach who desires to coach more leaders in the church, it was helpful to be reminded and to also keep in mind that pastors today, do not lack information, but do need help with coach processing that information. Also, as someone who has served full-time, part-time, and as a volunteer in churches in the U.S. and in Latin America, this podcast really hit home for me on several levels. Fundraising for ministry has always been a challenge for me. I’ll be honest here; I still struggle with the idea of asking for financial support from others. I really don’t consider this as one of my strengths. About a year ago, I remember expressing that in a discussion with a close friend of mine and their response to me was, “do you believe you deserve their help?” I said to myself, that is a great question. “Do I believe I deserve the financially help and support of others?” If my answer is no, why is that? I may need to have a conversation with Jesus about this. Thanks again for sharing with us from your own experience Doug Foltz.

    Thanks CAM!
